The Bahrain Free Labour Union Federation (Al-Hur) commemorates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually on the 28th of April, reaffirming the vital importance of a safe and healthy working environment in achieving social justice, sustainable development, and protecting the human capital, which is the cornerstone of all progress and prosperity.
On this occasion, the Federation renews its steadfast commitment to defending workers’ rights to a safe and hazard-free workplace, and stresses the necessity for employers across all sectors to comply with the highest occupational safety and health standards, in line with national legislation and relevant international conventions, particularly those of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Through its committees and members across various workplaces, the Federation has diligently implemented numerous initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of safety, notably through awareness campaigns, field visits, and training and empowerment programs. Among its major initiatives is the "Summer Safety Campaign," through which the Federation continues its on-the-ground efforts by distributing protective equipment and organizing direct lectures for workers at their job sites to practically and continuously reinforce the principles of occupational safety and health.
The Federation commends the positive response of the esteemed government to its demands, particularly the extension of the midday outdoor work ban period to three months annually, recognizing the direct impact of this measure in protecting workers operating under harsh climatic conditions.
On this occasion, the Federation reiterates its call to further enhance the protection of workers and workplaces, especially in light of the growing risks associated with climate change and the nature of certain physically demanding and hazardous professions. It emphasizes that worker safety must be a paramount priority that brooks no compromise.
The Federation calls for strengthening cooperation among the three parties of production to build a comprehensive preventive culture that ensures the health and safety of all workers in their workplaces. It also urges the continuous development of legislation, the activation of oversight mechanisms, and the provision of ongoing training programs in this field, thereby contributing to the reduction of occupational accidents and work-related illnesses.
On this occasion, we extend our sincere appreciation to every worker whose dedication and effort contribute to the building of our nation, and we reaffirm our commitment to being their steadfast voice in all forums, striving to make the work environment in Bahrain a model to be emulated in safety and human dignity.
